What is Escape the City?
Escape the City is a mobile outdoor escape game. Many know the principle from the escape room: solve puzzles as a team, combine clues, crack codes and work together against the clock. Only here it does not happen in a closed room, but outdoors – the entire city centre becomes the playing field.
Teams are guided by a game app on a tablet that leads them step by step through the mission. There is no fixed room, no setup and no prior knowledge needed: each team gets its tablet, and off you go. Fresh-air movement meets brainwork – exactly the mix that bonds a team.

Wernigerode: the backdrop that makes your game special
Wernigerode, nicknamed "the colourful town in the Harz" by the poet Hermann Löns, is one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in northern Germany. Hundreds of brightly painted half-timbered houses crowd into narrow lanes at the foot of the Brocken – an ideal playing field where a new scene waits around every corner.
The landmark is the magnificent town hall on the market square, whose half-timbered structure dates from the 15th century; the "smallest house" and the "crooked house" are famous too. High above the town towers Wernigerode Castle. Each of these places can become a puzzle station – teams cross paths along the way and meet up again at the end.
And Wernigerode has a trump card: from the station the Brocken Railway of the Harz narrow-gauge lines sets off – by steam up to the highest mountain in the Harz. A detail that can even be woven into the story on request.

From May to September the colourful old town shows its finest side – ideal for the outdoor game. But it runs all year and in any weather; in Advent the Wernigerode Christmas market turns the square in front of the town hall into an atmospheric backdrop.
Cobblestones, lanes and the odd stairway are part of the Wernigerode charm. With flat, comfortable footwear your team has more headspace for puzzles and less for sore feet.
