What is Escape the City?

Escape the City is a mobile outdoor escape game. Many know the principle from the escape room: solve puzzles as a team, combine clues, crack codes and work together against the clock. Only here it does not happen in a closed room, but outdoors – the entire city centre becomes the playing field.

Teams are guided by a game app on a tablet that leads them step by step through the mission. There is no fixed room, no setup and no prior knowledge needed: each team gets its tablet, and off you go. Fresh-air movement meets brainwork – exactly the mix that bonds a team.

How Escape the City works

The escape room experience in the fresh air – as a mobile game that your team runs through the city on its own.

  1. 1The story

A toxic cloud spreads over Meißen. Your team slips into the role of scientists who escaped the disaster lab – now you must produce the antidote and save the city.

  2. 2The game

In small teams you follow clues through the old town via the tablet, evaluate hints and crack puzzles. Movement and brainwork alternate – every solved task brings you closer to the antidote.

  3. 3The support

Experienced team guides set up the game and are reachable by chat and phone throughout the event. You have nothing to worry about except solving.

  4. 4The finale

Together against the clock: whoever completes the mission in time saves the city. At the end the winning team is crowned – a moment you'll still talk about over the closing get-together.

Takes place in any weather – rain ponchos or sunscreen are included.

Why Meißen is the perfect playing field

Escape the City needs no museum and no entry tickets – it needs a city that invites exploration. Meissen delivers exactly that: a compact old town at the foot of the castle hill, where the market square, lanes and stairs up to the Albrechtsburg and cathedral flow into one another on short routes.

Compact & fully walkable

From the market square with the Frauenkirche via narrow lanes and stairs up to the castle hill, everything sits close together. Ideal for connecting stations without long distances – teams stay on the move, on foot throughout.

The cradle of porcelain

In the Albrechtsburg above the town the first European porcelain – the world-famous Meissen – was created from 1710. Castle, cathedral and old town pull teams straight into the story.

Many scenes, one mission

Squares, passages, stairways and quiet corners turn into puzzle locations. A simple stroll becomes a thrilling race against time.

Meißen: the backdrop that makes your game special

Meissen lies picturesquely on the Elbe, crowned by the castle hill with the Albrechtsburg and cathedral. The Albrechtsburg, built between 1471 and 1524, is regarded as the first castle-palace in German architectural history. Below it, a compact old town of lanes, stairs and squares runs down the slope – an ideal playing field where a new scene waits around every corner.

The landmarks are the late-Gothic Albrechtsburg and the neighbouring cathedral with its princes' chapel. Add the market square with the town hall and the Frauenkirche, whose carillon is made of Meissen porcelain. Each of these places can become a puzzle station – teams cross paths along the way and meet up again at the end.

And Meissen has a trump card: Europe's first porcelain manufactory was founded here in 1710 – ever since, the name Meissen has stood worldwide for fine porcelain with the crossed swords. A detail that can even be woven into the story on request.

Getting there & good to know

Meissen is easy to reach via the A4 and A14 motorways and by suburban train from Dresden (around 40 minutes); the station is close to the old town. An Escape the City pairs perfectly with a tour of the porcelain manufactory or a visit to the Albrechtsburg – just ask us about a supporting programme.

Insider tips for your Escape the City in Meißen

A few hints from experience so your team day in Meißen runs smoothly:

Best time

From May to September the old town on the Elbe shows its finest side – ideal for the outdoor game. But it runs all year and in any weather; in Advent the Meissen Christmas market around the market square gives the mission a special mood.

Comfortable shoes

Cobblestones, lanes and the odd stairway are part of the Meißen charm. With flat, comfortable footwear your team has more headspace for puzzles and less for sore feet.

Porcelain bonus

To finish, a visit to the porcelain manufactory or a glass of Meissen wine is worth it – the town lies in the heart of the Saxon wine region. A lovely add-on right after the game.

Request early

Popular dates (May–September and the Advent season) book up fast. Requesting early secures your preferred date and enough lead time for individual adjustments.

Off the shelf – or your own theme

Escape the City works straight away as a ready-made format. Those who want it more individual can help shape it – because sometimes a team event should sound like your team, not like a template.

Adapt the theme

Instead of the classic toxic-cloud story, the framework can be adjusted and varied – just ask us about the possibilities. The city stays the playing field, the narrative becomes yours.

Customise individual puzzles

On request we weave company-specific terms, insider references, numbers or a link to your business into selected puzzles. Small touches with a big "aha" effect for the team.

To be honest: not everything is possible, and a fully custom game needs some lead time – but in consultation a surprising amount can be done. Just tell us what you have in mind.

Perfect for which occasions?

Escape the City suits groups of 10 to 200 people – from a small team day to a large company event. Especially popular for company outings, team building, kick-offs, conference side programmes and club outings in Meißen.
