Escape the City Hildesheim
A toxic cloud threatens the city – and your team has 2 to 3 hours to save it. Escape the City turns Hildesheim old town into the playing field: in small teams you follow clues through lanes and across squares, crack puzzles and race against time. Escape room meets city exploration – right in Hildesheim's old town around the market square and World Heritage cathedral.
What is Escape the City?
Escape the City is a mobile outdoor escape game. Many know the principle from the escape room: solve puzzles as a team, combine clues, crack codes and work together against the clock. Only here it does not happen in a closed room, but outdoors – the entire city centre becomes the playing field.
Teams are guided by a game app on a tablet that leads them step by step through the mission. There is no fixed room, no setup and no prior knowledge needed: each team gets its tablet, and off you go. Fresh-air movement meets brainwork – exactly the mix that bonds a team.
Highlights
How Escape the City works
The escape room experience in the fresh air – as a mobile game that your team runs through the city on its own.
1 · The story
A toxic cloud spreads over Hildesheim. Your team slips into the role of scientists who escaped the disaster lab – now you must produce the antidote and save the city.
2 · The game
In small teams you follow clues through the old town via the tablet, evaluate hints and crack puzzles. Movement and brainwork alternate – every solved task brings you closer to the antidote.
3 · The support
Experienced team guides set up the game and are reachable by chat and phone throughout the event. You have nothing to worry about except solving.
4 · The finale
Together against the clock: whoever completes the mission in time saves the city. At the end the winning team is crowned – a moment you'll still talk about over the closing get-together.
Takes place in any weather – rain ponchos or sunscreen are included.

Why Hildesheim is the perfect playing field
Escape the City needs no museum and no entry tickets – it needs a city that invites exploration. Hildesheim delivers exactly that: a compact old-town core around the market square, where half-timbering, squares and two World Heritage churches flow into one another on short routes.
Compact & fully walkable
From the magnificent market square via the Knochenhauer-Amtshaus to the cathedral and St Michael's Church, everything sits close together. Ideal for connecting stations without long distances – teams stay on the move, on foot throughout.
Twice World Heritage in one town
The cathedral and St Michael's Church have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1985 – Romanesque architecture of world rank. This heritage and the rebuilt half-timbered market square pull teams straight into the story.
Many scenes, one mission
Squares, passages, stairways and quiet corners turn into puzzle locations. A simple stroll becomes a thrilling race against time.
Hildesheim: the backdrop that makes your game special
Hildesheim, one of the oldest episcopal cities in northern Germany, has not one but two buildings on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1985: the Cathedral of the Assumption and St Michael's Church. Between them lies a compact old town with the magnificently rebuilt half-timbered market square – an ideal playing field where a new scene waits around every corner.
The landmarks are the cathedral with its famous bronze works and St Michael's Church, a masterpiece of Ottonian architecture. Add the market square with the Knochenhauer-Amtshaus, one of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Germany. Each of these places can become a puzzle station – teams cross paths along the way and meet up again at the end.
And Hildesheim has a trump card: the "Thousand-Year Rose" on the apse of the cathedral – considered the oldest rose in the world and closely tied to the town's founding legend. A detail that can even be woven into the story on request.
Getting there & good to know
Hildesheim is easy to reach via the A7 and as a station near Hanover; the station is only a short distance from the old town. An Escape the City pairs perfectly with a cathedral tour or a stroll across the historic market square – just ask us about a supporting programme.
Insider tips for your Escape the City in Hildesheim
A few hints from experience so your team day in Hildesheim runs smoothly:
🗓️ Best time
From May to September the old town shows its finest side – ideal for the outdoor game. But it runs all year and in any weather; in Advent the Hildesheim Christmas market on the historic market square gives the mission a special mood.
👟 Comfortable shoes
Cobblestones, lanes and the odd stairway are part of the Hildesheim charm. With flat, comfortable footwear your team has more headspace for puzzles and less for sore feet.

Off the shelf – or your own theme
Escape the City works straight away as a ready-made format. Those who want it more individual can help shape it – because sometimes a team event should sound like your team, not like a template.
Adapt the theme
Instead of the classic toxic-cloud story, the framework can be adjusted and varied – just ask us about the possibilities. The city stays the playing field, the narrative becomes yours.
Customise individual puzzles
On request we weave company-specific terms, insider references, numbers or a link to your business into selected puzzles. Small touches with a big "aha" effect for the team.
To be honest: not everything is possible, and a fully custom game needs some lead time – but in consultation a surprising amount can be done. Just tell us what you have in mind.
