"Should we go indoors or outdoors?" – I hear this question in almost every first conversation. The answer is simpler than most people think. Five short questions are all it takes to make the right decision.
When Outdoor Is the Better Choice
Outdoor events thrive on movement, fresh air and the feeling of experiencing something real together. If your team sits at a desk all day, a change of scenery under the open sky can be exactly what's needed. Events like Highland Games, GPS City Rally or Escape the Forest take teams out of their daily routine – literally.
Outdoor works especially well when:
- Your team works at desks all day and needs movement
- You want to explore a city or its surroundings
- The group is larger (30+ people)
- The event takes place between April and October
- You want an adventure experience that people will talk about for a long time
When Indoor Is the Better Choice
Indoor events are predictable, weather-proof and often more intense. When a group works together in one room, a concentration develops that's hard to achieve outdoors. Formats like Beat the Box, Teambuilding Quiz Show or Domino Challenge are made for this.
Indoor works especially well when:
- The weather is uncertain or the event takes place in winter
- You have your own location (conference room, office space, hotel)
- Communication and collaboration are the focus
- The group is quieter and prefers puzzles over running
- The event is part of a larger program (e.g., after a meeting)
5 Questions That Make the Decision for You
You don't need to spend hours agonizing. Answer these five questions honestly – and the answer practically reveals itself:
- When does the event take place?
November to March → lean indoor. April to October → both are possible. - Do you have your own location?
Yes (conference hotel, company premises) → indoor is obvious. No → outdoor uses the city as the playing field. - What does your team need right now?
Movement and a change of scenery → outdoor. Focus and collaboration → indoor. - How big is the group?
Over 50 people → outdoor formats like Highland Games or GPS City Rally scale better. Under 20 → indoor can be more personal. - Are there physical limitations?
If accessibility matters → indoor gives more control. Outdoor still works – talk to us.
Or Simply: Both
What many people don't know: some of our most popular events work both indoor and outdoor. The XXL Chain Reaction is just as spectacular on a lawn as in an event hall. Beat the Box sets up in a conference room just as well as on a terrace. And the Crime Challenge can be adapted flexibly depending on the weather.
