A team event is over – and what remains? Memories, of course. But also photos that capture those memories. At anydoors, we photograph every event as standard and provide the images free of charge. But when is a professional event photographer worth it? And what's the difference between "nice snapshots" and "Wow, we need to share these"?
What We Offer as Standard at anydoors
First things first: Photos are taken at every anydoors event – it's part of our service. Our event hosts capture the best moments with their cameras:
- Team photos during challenges
- Group pictures
- Action shots during competitions
- The award ceremony
We provide these images to you free of charge as downloads – usually within a few days after the event. For many teams, this is perfectly sufficient.
However: Our hosts are primarily responsible for running the event. Photography is something they do "on the side" – not their main focus. And this is exactly where professional event photography comes into play.
When Is a Professional Event Photographer Worth It?
From my experience with hundreds of events, there are clear situations where a professional photographer makes the difference:
1. Large Groups (50+ People)
At large events, a lot happens simultaneously. While Team A is building their chain reaction, Team B is celebrating a breakthrough at the escape game. A host can't be everywhere – but a dedicated photographer can.
Rule of Thumb:
For 50+ people or 8+ teams, I recommend a professional event photographer. Otherwise, great moments are guaranteed to be missed.
2. Events with PR or Marketing Purposes
Will the photos be used in internal communications, on social media, or in press releases? Then you need images of a quality that goes beyond "nice snapshot":
- Perfect exposure (even in difficult lighting conditions)
- Thoughtful composition
- Professional post-processing
- High resolution for print materials
3. Special Occasions
Company anniversary, kick-off for an important project, farewell for long-standing employees – some events are simply too important for compromises in documentation.
4. When Photos Are Part of Showing Appreciation
Professional event photos are also a sign of appreciation towards the team. The message: "This day was important to us – so important that we had it professionally documented."

5 Tips for Better Event Photos
Whether with a professional photographer or without – these tips help get better images:
1. Communicate Timing
Inform the photographer about the exact schedule: When is the award ceremony? When is the most emotional moment? This way, no one misses the highlights.
2. Consider Lighting
Outdoor events in the early afternoon or late morning offer the best natural light. Midday sun (12-2 PM) creates harsh shadows – avoid if possible or move to the shade.
3. Authenticity Over Perfection
The best event photos show real emotions: celebration, concentration, shared laughter. Posed group pictures are nice, but action shots are what evoke memories.
4. Think About Usage
Clarify beforehand: What will the images be used for? Landscape format works for Instagram, LinkedIn banners need extra-wide shots, print posters need high resolution.
5. Inform Participants
Communicate beforehand that photos will be taken. First, for GDPR reasons, second, so no one is surprised. Most people behave more naturally in front of the camera when they know about it.
GDPR and Event Photos
An important topic that's often forgotten: Data protection.
What You Need to Consider:
- Inform in advance: Participants should know that photos will be taken
- Obtain consent: During registration or on-site
- Enable opt-out: Those who don't want to be photographed should be able to signal this (e.g., colored wristbands)
- Clarify purpose of use: Internal? Social media? Advertising?
Practical Tip:
At anydoors, we have a clause in our booking documents that regulates photo usage. Contact us if you need a template!
Our Conclusion: When Is the Investment Worth It?
In summary:
Our Standard Photos Are Sufficient If:
- The team is under 50 people
- The photos are primarily intended for internal memories
- The budget is limited
A Professional Photographer Is Worth It If:
- More than 50 people are participating
- Photos will be used for marketing, PR, or employer branding
- It's a special occasion (anniversary, kick-off, etc.)
- You want to document the event as a sign of appreciation
"In 25 years of team building, I've learned one thing: The best events become the best stories. And good photos are what keep those stories alive."
